Full Jaw Implants in York

Getting Your Confidence Back With Full Jaw Implants

If you have lost most or all of the teeth in one jaw, dental implants can be used in several different ways to give you much greater stability, confidence and chewing ability.

The right option depends on your mouth, the amount and position of available bone, how fixed you would like your teeth to feel, and the type of restoration that will work best for you.

Options can include:

  • Implant-retained overdentures with stud attachments
Usually supported by a small number of implants. The denture clips securely onto the implants, but can still be removed by you for cleaning.
  • Implant-retained overdentures with a bar
A metal bar joins the implants together and the denture clips over it. This can provide greater stability and support while still allowing the denture to be removed for cleaning.
  • A fixed full-jaw implant bridge
A full set of replacement teeth is attached to several implants and remains fixed in place. You do not remove it yourself, and it is designed to feel much more like having fixed teeth again.

For some patients, implants simply make an existing denture dramatically more secure. For others, they allow the denture to be replaced completely with a fixed bridge.

During your consultation, we will assess your teeth, gums and bone and talk you through the different options, including the advantages, limitations, maintenance and likely costs of each.

2

3D CT Scan

A 3D CT scan will be taken to assess your bone levels and allow precise planning of your treatment. It is gold standard practice to provide a CT scan for implants, so that the position of your nerves and blood vessels can be precisely assessed for safe surgery.

3

Planning the Aesthetics

During treatment planning, your whole smile will be looked at in relation to your lips, bone, and facial structure. The planned colour and shape of your new teeth will be discussed.

The Implant Placement Process

1

The Implant Surgery

Several dental implants can be fitted in 1-2 hours under local anaesthetic, normally under sedation.  A temporary denture is usually fitted immediately so you can continue life as normal.  You may need painkillers after surgery. The implants will integrate naturally with your existing bone, making it strong and secure.

2

Preparing the  Bridge

The gum is then normally allowed to heal for up to 12 weeks. After this time, detailed records are taken, the colour chosen and the bite checked. This information is sent to our world-class team of ceramists and used to construct the full jaw restoration.

3

Fitting the  Restoration

The colour and layered translucency of the porcelain is created by hand and is unique for every patient. At your following appointment, the new bridge is fitted securely onto the titanium implants.

Aftercare

Caring for Your Dental Implant

Good daily cleaning and regular professional maintenance are important for the long-term health of your implant.

At the end of your treatment, we will show you how to clean effectively around your new implant and recommend the most suitable products for you.

We will then advise how often you should attend dental hygiene appointments, based on your individual needs. These appointments help us monitor the health of the surrounding gums, remove deposits that are difficult to clean at home and identify any early signs of inflammation.

Annual Implant Review

We recommend an annual implant review.

During this appointment, we will assess the health and stability of your implant, the surrounding gum and bone, and the implant crown, bridge or denture. We will also review how effectively the area is being cleaned and take a radiograph when clinically required.

Regular reviews allow us to identify any early changes before they develop into more significant problems.

Annual implant reviews and any recommended hygiene care are also required to maintain our extended five-year implant guarantee.

Your annual implant review is separate from your routine dental examination, which remains important for checking the health of your natural teeth, gums and mouth.

Our Dental Implant Guarantee

All dental implants placed at Andrea Ubhi Dentistry are covered by a one-year guarantee.

This is extended to five years when you:

  • Attend your annual implant review; and
  • Complete all recommended hygiene and maintenance appointments.

These appointments allow us to monitor your implants and help keep them healthy and secure.

If annual reviews or recommended hygiene appointments are missed, the guarantee will remain limited to one year.
