Smile with confidence on one of the happiest days of your life!

January 31, 2017

Your wedding is set to be one of the happiest days of your life and you want plenty of photos to capture and remember it by, right?

But if you’re unhappy with your teeth, you may find that you clamp your lips shut when smiling, meaning you don’t smile fully or freely.

So, here’s our smile plan, so you know how far in advance you need to book your treatment to get the smile you want for the big day.

24 months before the big day – Orthodontic consultation

Cases of complex overcrowding can take up to 24 months to be corrected with orthodontic treatment. So, if you’re thinking of braces to help straighten your smile, you’re best coming to see us as soon as possible.

We can offer a range of discreet braces, such as ceramic or hidden ‘Incognito’ braces.

Ceramic braces are made of tooth coloured material which makes the significantly less noticeable than traditional metal braces and they aren’t too visible in photos either, meaning if you wanted, you could have them on for the wedding day itself.

Incognito braces are fitted to the back of your teeth and so are virtually invisible from the outside. Again, this means that you could wear them for your big day and nobody would know – unless of course you decided to tell them.

Incognito braces are practically invisible from the outside.

Less complicated cases could be treated in under six months, but it’s always best to book your consultation early.

4- 6 months – Implant consultation

If you have a gap that you want filling before your big day, you should arrange your consultation as soon as possible.

Dental implants secure restorations such as crowns, bridges and dentures into place, meaning your new teeth won’t move whilst you chat and laugh with all your guests. Dental implants also improve your bite strength and make it easier for you to bite and chew foods – which is great for all those cake and menu tasting sessions!

Dental implant treatment can take up to three months from the first consultation to the final placement, so it’s a good idea to come and talk to us as soon as you get that engagement ring on your finger so that we can give you the fuller smile you want.

3-4 months – Veneer consultation

For a glossier, more even smile, porcelain veneers can take up to six weeks from your first consultation to your final fit, so it’s a good idea to see us at least four months before the big day.

Porcelain veneers are often the cosmetic treatment of choice for celebrities, and we see a number of veneered smiles walking the red carpet at almost every Hollywood event.

An alternative and more conservative option to porcelain veneers is composite bonding.  Dr Steve Gibson, one of our amazing dentists, is incredibly skilled at composite bonding. Composite bonding can be used with zero preparation, being a minimally invasive alternative to porcelain veneers and can be used to do anything from repairing cracked and damaged teeth, to brightening a dull and discoloured smile.

With composite bonding, a layer of white composite material can be placed onto the tooth surface to build up a natural looking, brand new tooth. The composite can set in a number of seconds, giving you an instantly transformed smile.

With composite bonding, it’s probably a good idea to come and see us a couple of months before the big day so that we have time to plan and design a smile that suits you and your needs.

6 Weeks- Whitening Consultation

Teeth whitening can be used to gradually brighten the shade of your teeth, giving you’re a brighter, whiter smile that will match the white of any wedding dress.

If you are suitable for teeth whitening treatment, we’ll give you tubes of whitening gel to take home and use in your whitening trays so you can get your teeth to the shade you want. Plus, you can always give your smile a little top up in the week before the big day if you need to!

1-2 Weeks – General clean and polish

Whether you’re planning on a big cosmetic transformation or not, it’s always a good idea to arrange a trip to our hygienist the week of the wedding.  Jennie, our amazing hygienist, will give your teeth a thorough clean and polish off any staining so you can head into your big day with a fresh feeling, glamourous looking smile
