Keynote Speaker - Marilyn Stowe "It's a Woman Thing!"

About Marilyn

A proud Yorkshire lass, Marilyn founded her law firm in a converted shop in East Leeds. She opened 12 offices nationally including Gray’s Inn London, growing it into the UK’s largest specialist family law firm which she sold to private equity in February 2017 for a substantial eight figure sum. Academically, she has lectured English law at a French University for a year, led the Law Society’s Family Law Panel from inception into the Law Society’s largest specialist panel. A Mediator and Arbitrator she was a member of two advisory groups to the Law Commission in relation to change in family law and the first woman solicitor outside London elected Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers.

Marilyn was legal blogger for The Times ‘The Experts” and authored three books about divorce, donating all the proceeds from her latest best seller Divorce & Splitting Up, to The Children’s Society. Her eponymous blog ranked in the top ten world family law blogs. She had her own phone in on ITV’s ‘This Morning.’ She has advised on the scripts for The Split, Emerdale, Coronation Street and The Archers.

Working pro bono in her spare time, convinced of her innocence, she obtained undisclosed medical evidence which freed Sally Clark, a solicitor convicted of murdering two of her baby sons. As a philanthropist she also supports a number of charities.

Marilyn is married to Tribunal Judge Grahame Stowe. Their son Benjamin, a family solicitor is married to Tara, a banker, parents of Cecily. Marilyn is now a motivational speaker and ‘part time nanny’ to Cecily which is much harder work than practicing family law and she loves every minute!

Mary Storrie - "The Future is Pink"

About Mary

Mary Storrie is founder of the Rosie May Foundation (RMF), which is a partner of Asha Nepal's. RMF works in both Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Mary will be talking about the gender issues in Sri Lanka, and projects that RMF has created, including "The Future is Pink."

In 2017 RMF rolled out the ground breaking pilot programme with the first three single parent mums training to be tuk tuk drivers. This unique concept of women driving for women in highly visible pink tuk tuks as a taxi service is breaking gender and cultural barriers. The benefits are twofold. Not only can mums generate a sustainable income for their families, but also provide personal safety for women and girls travelling to work and school. Our women drivers are the first in the Southern Province and our aim is to dramatically increase this number over the next few years.

Mary will discuss how we can make a difference.

Why Events Focussing on Women?

We are aware that only 19% of dental practice owners and also business owners in the UK are women. Only 5% of implantologists worldwide are women. We want to create a supportive atmosphere where women can learn and develop to their full potentials, finding friendships and networking professionally. We want to encourage women to be everything that they want to.

All genders welcome.
