Dentist of the Year 2005 (The Probe awards) is pleased to announce that patients of the practice are benefiting from the latest innovation in Cosmetic Dentistry - the 'trial-smile' Traditionally, when a patient opts for treatments involving porcelain laminate veneers, they could only imagine what their new smile would look like, sometimes with the use of limited results from computer imaging. Dr Ubhi and her team work in conjunction with DaVinci lab in America (as seen on Extreme Makeover US and The Swan) to produce a model of the proposed treatments which the patients can see and feel before any treatment is undertaken. It gives the patient the ability to make changes to the look of the smile, which is fantastic. In certain cases, where the natural teeth are smaller than the proposed veneers, the proposed smile can even be tried in the mouth to enable to patient to see and feel what their new smile will look like. 'The trial-smile is a big hit with the patients' says Dr Ubhi 'it allows them to see what the new smile will look like, rather than just a computer image, which is a huge step in cosmetic dentistry terms. The patients know what the results will look like before my team undertakes any treatments. This is particularly helpful where a patient is opting for a full smile makeover, or is requesting alterations to the shape of their teeth' 'I believe that it will take away some of the natural concerns that patients may have about whether they will be happy with the look of the new smile.' The 'trial-smile' will also be used as the basis of the model for the temporary veneers, enabling the patient to get used to their new smile, which the permanent veneers are being created in the lab.
