AmalgamAmalgam fillings are the silver fillings which contain mercury, and are traditionally used in dentistry. BondingA method of 'gluing' the inlay/veneer/filling to the tooth to give a strong restoration to the tooth. ConsultationThe initial appointment at the practice. Cosmetic DentistryThe area of dentistry looking at the appearance of the teeth and gums in relation to the lips. Dental faceliftsThe method of using dental restorations to give more support to the lips, which in turn can reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the mouth area. Dental HygienistA member of the dental team who cares for the health of your teeth and gums. The hygienist provides scaling and polishing of the teeth, and oral hygiene advice. Dental implantsDental Implants are titanium 'screws' placed in the jaw as a long-term solution for missing teeth. DVD glassesThese are special glasses which can be worn during treatment for your comfort. The glasses have special screens and earpieces, enabling you to enjoy a DVD whilst the team carry out the treatment for you. 'No-Preparation' veneersThe system of fitting porcelain laminate veneers without the need to prepare (remove any of) the underlying tooth. This system is not suitable in every case. Oral hygieneThe knowledge needed to keep your teeth and gums in a healthy condition. Porcelain crownsSometimes known as caps. A crown is bonded over the whole tooth to provide a secure, tooth coloured restoration. Porcelain inlaysPorcelain inlays are used to provide a secure restoration when the hole in the tooth is too large for a filling, and not large enough for a crown. Porcelain Laminate Veneer/porcelain veneerIs best described as a 'false-fingernail' for a tooth. It is a thin piece of porcelain which is securely bonded to the front surface of the tooth to give a straight, white, natural appearance. Power whiteningThe method of whitening your teeth with a dental light within the surgery. Sometimes known as laser whitening. Root canal therapyRoot canal therapy is the method of removing the nerve within the root of the tooth. Smile MakeoverThe use of dental restorations to provide a transformation in the appearance of a person's smile. The ProbeA dental magazine which hosts awards each year recognising excellence within dentistry. Tooth WhiteningThe method of whitening the teeth which can be carried out at home or within the surgery. White fillingsThese are amalgam-free/mercury-free fillings. They provide a strong restoration, which can be colour-matched to the surrounding tooth, providing an almost invisible filling. |
